ARV’s Better Balance Centre specialises in the assessment and treatment of your balance and strength in order to minimise your risk of a fall, statistically the most common reason for hospital visits among our residents. There are added benefits too. It’s all aimed at keeping you fit and healthy, and maintaining your independent lifestyle at home.
Many residents visit the centre for an assessment, particularly if they’ve experienced recent problems with their vision, had a fall in the past year or so, suffer heart problems or diabetes, have had a stroke or are over the age of 80.
Assessments are conducted by a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist who have extensive experience in Falls Prevention. This comprehensive assessment looks at your strength, balance, eyesight and reaction time in order to estimate your falls risk. It can also include an environmental assessment of your home to identify any potential hazards and recommend ways to lessen the risk of a slip or trip. You can then be offered an individual treatment program, group classes or a home program.
You’ll need a referral from your GP to access the Better Balance Program, which is operated on a fee for service basis. DVA or Enhanced primary Care (EPC) referrals are accepted.
Please contact our Better Balance Free Call line 1800 109 650 for all enquiries, appointments and bookings.
