Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing), Dip. Science (Nursing), Grad. Dip Gerontology and accreditation as a Registered Aged Care Quality Assessor

Mark Aros is a man of action. He recently wrote a submission to the Aged Care Association Australia (ACAA) nominating ARV for Best Employer – ARV subsequently won the award. He took the initiative and highlighted the organisation’s strengths in helping its frontline staff build and develop great careers in Aged Care.

“I wanted to thank ARV for its commitment to staff,” he said.

“Generally, in this industry, frontline staff members don’t have the scope to develop a meaningful career. ARV has changed that by providing our most important staff, our frontline staff, with career and personal development opportunities that are generally not available elsewhere in the industry,” Mark.  “As a result, I have personally seen some of our staff blossom – and our residents have benefited from that”.

Mark views his decision to join ARV very positively. “I feel valued as an ARV employee. My ideas are respected and I can make a positive difference in peoples’ lives,” said Mark. “ARV has heard me when I’ve asked to be able to expand my role and to take on new challenges.”

Importantly, Mark shares the same values that inform ARV’s people-focused approach to Aged Care. “Working in Aged Care and, in particular, working for a Christian organisation, it is easy to see that people come first. Working for ARV has allowed me to care for people in a caring and supportive environment,” he said.

“Often as you progress through the ranks of the public health system and its bureaucracy you see that cooperation and innovation are stifled. Not so at ARV – here, innovation is welcomed and the organisation constantly strives to improve.”

Mark is enthusiastic about ARV and recommends it as a great place to work and to develop a worthwhile and life-changing career in Aged Care. “At ARV health professionals have access to superior career progression with a large, experienced and financially stable provider. Compared to other Aged Care organisations, ARV is by far the best place to be, offering opportunities, rewards, innovation and a balanced work-life environment.”

The high standard of ARV care was not new to him. “In my role with the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency (ACSAA), I had audited a couple of ARV homes. I was impressed with the quality of care, services and the commitment of the organisation and I knew that I wanted to work for ARV,” Mark said. “When the opportunity came up with ARV, I jumped at it without hesitation.”

Before Mark joined ARV he was working for ACSAA, where he served for 41/2 years as a senior assessor. Previous to that, he specialised in acute aged care nursing, worked as a community nurse and has also worked in management and  education roles. Mark sees his current role as one of the most rewarding roles he had had so far but looks forward to other challenges and opportunities with ARV.

His move to ARV reflected Mark’s desire to remain in the Aged Care sector, “but in a role where I could contribute directly to improving the lives of older people.”
